I think that artists occupy the other extreme end as well - where they vigorously pursue their inner vision and ignore what the rest of the world has got to say. Anyone who looks at their works and doesn't "get it" is simply an idiot.

There is that element. I do wonder if that is not for some, a defensive mechanism to counter the alternative?
