Magpie Tales 41

Eleventh Hour

The eleventh hour
a repudiation of the one before.
Older, wiser, clutched the present
staking claim to so much more
then any earlier period of history.

Still this cannot be self contained.
Time is a currency that is devalued
with each passing moment.

The tarnished silver replaced and the
cycle continues. Each click of a second
the spin, an empty chamber of a gun.
–a misfire, misspoken pronouncement;
the anti-matter.

I especially like that line. Great words!

Well written, love the line, 'still this cannot be self contained.' How would one contain time?

I really like the notion of the empty chamber and the misfire at the end. Nice piece, Michael.

I like the idea of time being a currency that is devalued. The m's in the last two lines play their roles nicely, as well as the strong ending. A great write for the prompt!

Thanks Terresa!

Helen- glad you enjoyed.

ED Goddess - yes the gun tends to be an attention getter.

Willow - it is you I need to thank for continuing to do these great prompts! And Tnaks for stopping by.

Reflections... I want to bottle it and keep it around but it won't have any part of it.

Kathew - Thanks. Sometimes I think we fail to realize that it's more valuable than money.
