After Work

AFTER WORK

The ringing in my ear
the desk clutter—
post-its, a pile of unreturned
messages, half finished report,
the missing file that haunted me
all the way home—

the stop and go traffic on I-70,
sloshed latte in my lap,
the SUV on my ass,
news of floods, more IEDs,
unemployment, casualties,
mosque, no mosque—

all dispersed in a floral medley
of gentle bath bubbles and oils
nibbling my toes.

A nice soak can be so therapeutic! I especially like the subtle rhyming pattern here. Nice piece.

I felt the stress and then I felt the relief. I really like the nibbling at my toes part!

you had me all stressed too ...no wonder you needed the soak in the bath. Well written.

There's a lot of stress on the hunt - thankfully, there are still bubbles and soothing waters.

I like this very much. Simple bubbles can be so rewarding.

As fun as they are, I haven't had a bubble bath in many years.

A nice cool one sounds pretty good about now.

Nice to see you really know what's important! Pity about the coffee though. :-)

Thanks everyone... It grew on me. I was only so-so with it at first.
