Mag 202: Predatory Waters

Phare de La Jument off the coast of Brittany by Jean Guichard

With a ravenous roar a hungry ocean
tries to swallow it whole. White saliva waves
encircle and crash against it.  Again and again

the waters engulf the phallic structure.
Over and over  the waves bash and bluster
in stormy anger, but the man made pillar survives.

The sea retreats in exhaustion.  Smaller waves
lap at the sides now as if to tease. Gentle
massaging motions as if to lull to sleep-

but the ocean will try again. An unrelenting
predator that will build up it's strength
as well as hunger for anything within reach.

Very nice. I like what you took from this, the sea trying to swallow the phallic structure. Yes, it will try again and again. It's like some of the lighthouses in and around Lake Superior, our inland sea.

Thrilling. Started with a very high tension, all calming down. I hope that's what's going to happen in my moments this week.

Waters are relentless and I could feel the pull of the waves in your words.

Excellent description of the relentless action of the sea and it’s eternal pull.

Loved the power and energy of that unrelenting sea. Great write, Michael.

The rather strong metaphor in this hits hard like the waves. A strong write, though I personally prefer a bit more subtlety.

A right bit of a battle.....! My money's on the lighthouse for a few more years yet!

Oh yes, the sea can be cruel, wild, and violent. You've captured that so well in this.
