That Clicking Sound

"When you finish a poem, it clicks shut like the top of a jewel box, but prose is endless. I haven't experienced an awful lot of clicking shut." ~ Kenneth Koch

As a poet and a writer of prose I can't say the experience is the same for me as Mr. Koch describes-- you see, everything I write-- prose and poetry-- seems to open the door farther than before leaving me to hear not the clicking sounds of closing lids but the creaks of old hinges never before used.

But then maybe that's just me?

Ah, ok.... But the "clicking sound" speaks to me. I know that sound, but then I'm not much of a prose writer and I think that tends to make a difference.
