The Mag 132: Off Limits

Big Room, 1948 by Andrew Wyeth

I get the chills here;
this room so open
voluminousness of air.

Even the grand fireplace
cannot cut the impersonal
feel.       The stark neatness,

not thing out of place.
Nothing ever happens here.
People come, look, but never sit
or stay.

Hmmm, interesting. It does look like a room where no one would ever stay. Like walking through Greenfield Village, a museum. I like the opening line and the closing. Very nice.

Your poem describes that big room as it is today - beautifully ...

'the Wyeth family living room has been restored and still retains the original features depicted in the painting.'

(from a website I stumbled on) ... and what I love about The Mag, the opportunity to explore artists and their work.

Loved the charged meaning of "but never sit or stay". Well done!
